The Economy

Miner working at the Resolution Copper Project

A mine is an engine that can help drive and lay the foundation for a better economy. Mining operations generate income from the sale of the minerals, and taxes levied against those sales represent income for the state. Mining jobs and the additional employment they support benefit local and regional communities with both income and tax revenue.

The projections below provide some insights on how the Resolution Project will benefit the communities of Arizona.

Arizona

The total economic impact of the project on the state is estimated to be $46.4 billion.

Copper Triangle

Including indirect and induced jobs, annual mine operations are initially expected to account for 2,603 jobs with $178.7 million in annual wages.

Superior

In addition to jobs, local tax revenue and scholarship grants, the Resolution Project could help secure over 500 acres for town development.

  • As the Resolution Project evolves, its benefits spread through Superior to the surrounding region. A 2008 third-party study projected peak annual economic impact on the state of Arizona at $798.2 million. In terms of fiscal impact, the project is estimated to generate $10.7 billion through federal, state, county and local taxes. The study also estimated the total economic impact over the project’s life on the state of Arizona to be $46.4 billion.
  • Over the five decades of active production, 1,200 mine employees and 200 contract employees are expected to be working during peak operations. Including the non-mining jobs indirectly created by mining employment, the annual mine operations are initially expected to account for 2,603 total jobs with $178.7 million in wages. Job creation in industrial and commercial businesses in support of the mine will, when added to mine related employment, result in a total of 5,808 jobs and $305 million in wages annually.
